A challenge for one of our clients, a significant player in the Zimbabwean tobacco industry was how to manage the analytics for their 3,500 small scale out grower farmers.

The farmers receive various types of loans in inputs to grow tobacco on pieces of land varying from 0.5 to 8 ha across Zimbabwe.
The client had a fairly good database in place, but the challenge was making sense of the thousands of layers of data contained in there.

We worked with their IT department and database administrator for links and access to the data. Using a number of analytical software platforms ,we created a
multi – dimensional management reporting package that helped to analyse farmer data with the ability to drill down various levels.

Valuable insight was brought to the fore regarding performance of different regions, quality of tobacco from different groups, regions and field staff.
Analytics in terms of yield, debt performance were also being flashed out.
